Spirit of Entrepreneurship Evening for Mayo Entrepreneurial Community

Prominent guest speakers for Mayo Entrepreneurial Event including Colm Lyon & John McGuire

Entrepreneurs, investors and business people will gather at GMIT Mayo next week to participate in the ninth annual Spirit of Entrepreneurship Evening, hosted by the Innovation Hub (iHub) at GMIT Mayo.  The iHub, formerly the Innovation in Business Centre (IiBC), will have a range of diverse speakers at the event, which will take place on Tuesday September 29th in St. Mary’s Hall.

The event kicks off with a one-to-one mentoring (booking essential) from business experts, which will run from 2pm to 4.30pm and is funded by the Mayo Local Enterprise Office and Enterprise Ireland.

The full event, sponsored by Lionbridge, commences at 4.30 pm with guests being able to view showcase stands around the hall of iHub Client companies. There will also be an opportunity to network with business contacts and enjoy locally produced coffee by Bean West Coffee and locally produced food being showcased by Café Rua. The prize for the best stand on the evening will be sponsored by AIB.

Karen Coleman, journalist and broadcaster will be the MC for the evening, and will begin with a discussion on “Building & Scaling a Business” with Colm Lyon, founder and CEO of Fire Financial Services Ltd., and founder and former CEO of Realex Payments, and John McGuire, founder of Active Mind Technology and creator of Game Golf.

At 6pm the PitchComp Challenge will take place, involving three early-stage companies making a pitch for investment. Each pitch will be 4 minutes and the best pitch will receive €1,500 funding / mentoring from Westbic. The companies pitching will all be New Frontier companies of the iHub at GMIT in Mayo or Galway.  

A Panel Discussion on ‘Innovation, Investment and Finance’, hosted by Karen Coleman will get under way at 6.30 pm. Included in this panel are Pat Walsh, PanelDuct, (winner of Irish Times / Intertrade Ireland most innovative company 2015), Mark Ganly, Contego Sports, West x North West (WxNW) new Western Angel Investment Syndicate and Sarah Nic Lochlainn a Serial Entrepreneur and a participant on RTE's Dragons' Den and founder of Aruna Sauces

The evening will conclude with Questions and Answers with the audience panel at 7pm.
This event is free to attend but booking is essential as places are limited.
