Case Study: Dylan Collins‐ Jolt Online supported by Dublin BIC Business Angel Partnership

‘Jolt’ is a publisher, developer and aggregator of browser based games. Jolt licences and develops games around well known brands. Similar to the traditional publisher/developer business model Jolt has migrated to the on‐line environment where there is enormous growth potential.

The attraction to the online model is the low development, start‐up and operating costs and the potential to scale revenues while keeping large gross margins. The company aims to employ over 50 people throughout the coming year and believes it is well positioned to exploit the predicted 15% growth for on‐line gaming in this year of negative GDP growth.

“We have always taken angel funding in the early stages of our start‐ups. The seed funding mechanism through a network such as the Halo Business Angel Partnership is the ideal and most efficient form of investment. I would be very much in favour of high volumes of start‐ups receiving seed financing, leveraging their low start up development costs and then creating and exploiting high growth opportunities.”

Michael Culligan Director of the Halo Business Angel Partnership commented: “Dylan’s companies are a great example of how the Business Angels operate and reflect a network that has now completed 45 deals raising over €7.5M private angel money”. The business angels invested Euro 800K over two rounds and were delighted with the return on investment in such a short timeframe upon exit.

The Halo Business Angel Partnership is a joint initiative between Enterprise Ireland, InterTrade Ireland and the Irish Business and Innovation Centres. It is managed by Dublin Business Innovation Centre (DBIC) and is a member of HBAN, the all Ireland umbrella organisation for Angel Groups, and the European Business Angel Network (EBAN).
